Red Clay

Red Clay: The red clay of North Carolina and surrounding regions is difficult to deal with when planting and maintaining gardens and outdoor areas. Handling red clay takes proper care and consideration that first-time landscape enthusiasts. Ultisol, commonly referred to as red clay, will usually necessitate soil amendments in order to sustain plant life, oftentimes with lime. Ultisol properties include good nutrition and less use of fertilizer, poor water filtration, and the characteristic red color, due to a high amount of iron oxide in the soil. For those reasons we take special care when planting  plants. The biggest most important thing we do is to prep the planting beds by tilling the soil with fertilized topsoil. That way the plants have the soil they need to thrive in along with the amazing North Carolina weather that they love.
